The worlds smallest movie – A boy and his atom.

IBM recently released this short film made from from placing Carbon Monoxide atoms and filming them stop motion style with a scanning tunneling microscope. Magnifying the atoms over 100 million times. It doesn’t have a great plot line  but it’s exciting that we can now influence the smallest building blocks of our universe to create something that we can recognize instantly. This is like the first silent movies, but for a technology that will ultimately change how our entire world operates.

We are taking steps toward the point where we will be able to create almost anything out of “thin air”. If scientists keep refining this technology eventually you may download and print your house, car, food, furniture, etc.
Here is a question for YOU though. If we no longer need to manufacture products, how will the world be different? Tell us in the comments below.
